Eastgate Studio Gallery

Our Story

Eastgate Studio is based at 11 Eastgate Beverley, East Yorkshire, housing five printmaking studios and a gallery-shop offering analogue prints, hand-printed products, printmakers tools, inks and paper for sale.

The property was purchased in February 2020 however the business opening was postponed following the COVID-19 restrictions on nonessential trading. Our first exhibition “The Mute Persistence of Water” was held in August 2020 during the brief respite when business could open.

The year of closure gave us the opportunity to refurbish 11 Eastgate in preparation for our reopening on 12 April 2021.

The signs of renovation are subtle as we have tried to retain the original atmosphere of the space as “Barry’s” Bookshop” remembered so well by the Beverley community.  We replaced to front windows to their original design adding double glazing in order to make the building more energy-efficient.  In addition, the floors have been dug out or lifted, insulated, piped with underfloor heating from green technology, and replaced with the original floorboards where possible, or refilled with concrete.

The aesthetic aim is for urban industrial with elegant gallery fittings.  Consequently, original brickwork has been exposed and sealed and the electrical rewire is wall mounted in steel conduit.  Track and spot have been installed to light the artwork and the workshops appropriately with warm light in the gallery and cool light in the workshops.
