Folklore, Myths and Legends

Open Call for Printmakers

Eastgate Studio and Gallery in Beverley invites printmakers to take part in an open exhibition exploring Folklore, Myths and Legends through contemporary printmaking. The exhibition runs from Saturday 4 April to Saturday 16 May 2026, with an opening event on Saturday 4 April at 13.00.

Baldur Norse Gods Loki, Hödr Ragnarok. Loki seen as a fly

Baldur and the Mistletoe mezzotint by Paul Butler

This open exhibition will sit alongside new work by Eastgate Studio members and associate members, creating a rich and diverse exploration of how folklore continues to be retold, reimagined and transformed for the present day.

Submissions may respond to myth, legend, ritual, symbolism and storytelling, and may use any printmaking technique, from traditional processes to experimental and contemporary approaches.

Folklore, Myths and Legends Application Form

We welcome print based works inspired by traditional and contemporary folklore. From ancient stories of gods and heroes to local legends, fairy tales and modern myths, folklore has long shaped cultures and captured the imagination. These narratives continue to live on through folk art, songs and dances, legends, children’s rhymes, proverbs and evolving contemporary traditions.

Printmakers are encouraged to consider local stories and regional folklore as inspiration.
