Eastgate Studio Gallery reopens on 28th January 2026 after redecoration with a printmaking exhibition celebrating the work of our studio community.

Our members’ reopening exhibition is on Saturday 31st January from 1pm and refreshments will be served.

Eastgate Studio Gallery reopens after its January redecoration with a printmaking exhibition celebrating the work of our studio community.
Folklore, Myths and Legends
Join us for an evocative exhibition exploring the timeless world of folklore, myths and legends through contemporary printmaking.
From ancient stories of gods and heroes to local legends, fairy tales, and modern myths, folklore has shaped cultures and sparked imaginations across the globe. Today, contemporary folklore continues to thrive in many forms, folk art, songs and dances, legends, children’s rhymes, proverbs, and more.
In this exhibition, our members and associate members present new print-based works inspired by these rich traditions. Through a diverse range of techniques and visual storytelling, they reinterpret tales old and new, revealing the universal themes, moral lessons, and enduring mysteries woven into human culture.

Heritage Open Days
Heritage Open Days is England's largest community led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.

We are delighted to be taking part in Beverley Open Studios this year. Open Studios is a unique opportunity to meet a wonderful mixture of 40+ artists of Beverley, ranging from painters and printers, to potters, framers, jewellers, and photographers.
Each venue will be open from 10am - 4pm on the first two weekends of October (unless otherwise stated).

Eastgate Studio Members’ Exhibition: Architecture
6 September – 18 October 2025
This winter, Eastgate Studio presents its Members’ Exhibition, Architecture, coinciding with both Heritage Open Days and Beverley Open Studios.
The main gallery will showcase prints inspired by the theme of Architecture, while additional works from our members’ wider practice will be displayed throughout the studio spaces.

Heritage Open Days: Architecture
We’re taking part in the Heritage Open Days 2025
Heritage Open Days (12th -21st September 2025) is England’s largest grass roots heritage festival involving over 40,000 volunteers and 5,000 events.
We will be featuring works relating to the theme of “Architecture” in the gallery along with an exhibition of print by Eastgate Studio members throughout our studio galleries.
Tides of Time: A Maritime Journey in Print

“Tides of Time: A Maritime Journey in Print” explores the connection between humanity and the sea, capturing its beauty, challenges, and mythology that reflect our seafaring heritage.
We would also like to shine a light on The Critical Fish Trail project. Organised and run by The Critical Fish Gordon Young's Fish Trail around Hull has been used as a starting point for 41 new creative commissions (one for each fish on the trail). The project also includes marine biology research into the fate of each species since the trail was installed in 1992.
Our residential printmaker, Susan Leeson, has been working on her commission, the mackerel, no 8 on the trail.

“East Yorkshire in the Wild”
This exhibition of original prints by Eastgate Studio members Eleanor Procter and Caroline Foxton draws on their observations of the natural world.

Lindy Norton
“Clifford’s Shed” drypoint print by Lindy Norton
Lindy Norton’s work has a narrative that is often unsaid. One of her preoccupations is creating a sense of unease within her work, exploring atmospheric qualities, ambiguity with mystery, hinting at human presence or absence. Her aim is to subtly change the truth of light and darkness to amplify uncertainties.

“When first I walk into a darkened room, my eyes need to adjust; a short period of visual insecurity stimulates ideas: moments that much of my work relates to.” Lindy Norton
Lindy Norton has had several one man shows and exhibited in many mixed exhibitions including The Royal Academy Summer Show. Her work is held in many private collections.

Lindy studied Fine Art (BA HONS) at Hull School of Art and Design and obtained an MA in Printmaking from Chelsea School of Art.

We are delighted to be taking part in Beverley Open Studios this autumn, a unique opportunity to meet some of the artists of Beverley. There is a wonderful mixture of some 30+ artists: there are painters, potters, framers, jewellers, photographers and of course, printmakers!
We will be featuring Eastgate Studio members’ work throughout our studio galleries along with an exhibition of print by Lindy Norton and Andi Dakin in the Studio Gallery.
Eastgate Studio member, Lindy, has been practising printmaking since completing an MA at Chelsea School of Art in 1985 and has recently completed an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. Her fine art practice alludes to narrative, exploring ambiguity with mystery, evidence hinting at human presence or absence.
Andi explores ways of representing the cosmos through aquatint etching and linocut printing, sometimes combining etchings and linocut to create complementing qualities. The cosmos and its intrigue are themes Andy continues to explore in his work.
Join us for this exciting event taking place over two weekends in October.

John Balman
John has been painting still lifes, landcape and portraiture for the past eight years. He captures a sense of stillness that comes from compositional balance and careful use of complimentary colour combinations. The compositions are relatively simple and uncluttered, comprising beautiful handmade ceramic ware, flowers and fruit. The finished still life paintings possess a rich and immersive atmosphere reminiscent of the Dutch tradition.
“In Focus”
The Hull Print Collective return to Eastgate Studio Gallery with their spring exhibition “In Focus”. Members will highlight an aspect of our world by focussing on constituent parts or by deconstruction of the whole.
“Still”
Eastgate Studio Members’ creative response to the stillness of winter but also the cultural tradition of the “still life”. We’ll be showcasing prints in our collection on the theme alongside new prints influenced by winter tranquility.
