John Dearing

Rachel Ellis-Jones & John Dearing are two printmakers, artists who share an affinity with the natural world.

Dearing works through rigorous and subtle mark marking, aiming to capture the hidden textures, tensions and patterns within nature and the landscape - in flux and stilled - to achieve a heightened contemplative whole, that leads to hidden truths and the secret soul of place.

Rachel Ellis-Jones

While Ellis-Jones practice explores the relationship between the written word, place, emotional landscapes and `how it felt to be there’. She works from written fragments, sketches, and site visits, Etching is her `go – to’ practice, the plate often becoming a reflection of surface accumulation and erosion, mirroring terrain or landscapes that she finds interesting.

Rachel Ellis-Jones

For this project, `Narrowing Light`, Dearing and Ellis-Jones explore light and how the changing seasons impact perceptions of the world around us, which are influenced by the cyclical nature of memory, weather, and emotional states. They investigate the changing light of the seasons: from summer’s, bright and dazzling display; autumn’s diffused light; winter’s dancing shadow play, to the tentative light of the world reborn in spring.
