We’re in for a treat with another printmaking collaboration, this time with Hull Print Collective members, Karen Cole and Layla Jabbari.

Karen is a member of the Hull Print Collective and began printmaking during the Covid period. After starting with drawing and painting classes, she soon discovered that printmaking was her true passion.

She worked across a range of techniques, including aquatint, drypoint, linocut, reduction linocut, collagraph, carborundum collagraph and mezzotint. She particularly enjoys the challenge and subtlety of aquatint.

These processes allow her to explore rich textures and tonal variation across a wide range of subjects, from intriguing creatures to the spaces we inhabit. She uses each printmaking method to amplify the character and atmosphere of her chosen subject.

“I’m a freelance illustrator from Hull, UK. I work closely with clients on work that often has story-telling and community at its centre. My projects have involved a variety of outcomes from animations, prints and zines to community art. My work playfully combines printmaking and collage layered in the digital space. The results are often quirky and experimental giving you an alternative view of a world full of stories.”
